Creative Communicator, Artist & Christ follower

A bit about me . . .

As a creative communicator, thought influencerI’m originally from England but my Christian faith has led me to live and love in practical ways around the world in several countries. South east Asia is like home to me but Canada and the USA have been homes too.  From a pretty suburban semi in the UK to an RV off-grid in the Arizona desert, from a Chinese high-rise apartment to a French manor house, I’ve actually had over 40 homes.

As a creative communicator, I love writing, speaking, singing, song writing and art and I’ve usually got several projects on the go.

I’m also a passionate advocate for natural health and well-being.  For many years I’ve enjoyed a plant-based, wholefood, vegan diet and you can find out more about enjoying a natural diet and lifestyle here. I love being out in nature, growing plants and vegetables, and sustainable living.

It’s a shame that I have experienced multiple traumas from childhood, but I am fortunate that I have been able to turn it around and make sense of it by leaning, writing by helping others, especially through my book, Surviving Trauma, Crisis & Grief: Practical & Spiritual Steps to Help you Survive, Heal & Help Others and trauma awareness training.

I am most definitely a dog lover and have been able to combine a passion for dogs with my trauma experience by training in Animal-Assisted-Therapy.  In Thailand, my first Rough Collie and I became a therapy team working into a local hospital, a children’s home and helping orphaned traumatised children.  I’ve also shown, and enjoy training, but mostly enjoy the fun and therapeutic companionship of dogs, and the natural holistic side of dog care, as well as long walks with the dogs and my husband (see my website www.winheartcollies.com for photos and further details on dog care).

My most important love in this world is family (I have children and grandchildren).  Having come from a broken home, I am a passionate believer in the importance and value of the family and the effects of divorce on children and adult children of divorce.

I hope you enjoy my developing website and find something here that encourages, challenges, helps, and inspires you in your life.

Some Poetry

Noble Tree

The wind inspries your wave for our attention, noble tree,
stood long among us serving us, deep-rooted and yet free,
shade from sun, shelter from rain, you cleanse our air with leafy breath,
enhancing all our views on life, still standing at our death.

The carpet grass cannot surpass your simple majesty,
though lain before us beckons us as royalty to tread,
but soft and green it welcomes all, each age and stage and walk of life;
where kings may pose are feet of playing little ones instead.

You together, grass and tree, compose a painter’s dream,
a child’s playground, lovers’ walk, musicians melody.
Your simple nature lacks the coarse complexities of clever man,
we need your tender touch, your constancy, your strength to stand.

Instead, we’ve wielded wounding swords of our authority
and felled our friends!  What fools!  Where will it end?

Roads.  Walls.  Technology.

Pug

I have to admit I was rather surprised
at the wrinkly features
of such a strange creature,
a pathetic picture
sat there on the rug.

But because you were mine
I just knew given time,
though your squashed nose would always be far from sublime,
that behind the flap-ears
and the runny-eyed tears
I’d find something endearing
in your ugly mug.

Now you tug at my heart
and it’s hard to impart
how your soppy face conjures up love with such art,
so that all the deplorables
now quite adorable,
ridiculous, laughable,
loveable Pug!

The Cat

Smug, you sprawl with sleek satisfaction
Your eyes slits of yellow indignation
At my interruption.

Slowly, you unfurl the sharp suggestion
Of a warning…
Then all soft and fawning curl yourself
And shut your eyes.

But I’m not fooled by your sleepy disguise,
I’m wise to all your charming wiles,
I see you peeping at me from your comfy lair…

Yes, cat, I do care…
That’s my chair!
